I like the double splint design, but I added extra foam padding onto the lower (metal) splint (yes, it was very hard to squeeze it in), because it was still absolutely uncomfortable to hit the ice with these on. Honestly, after trying a ton of protectors (for ice), I'm not happy with any of those, including these ones. We have received a size chart from the manufacturer of the shelters and they use the same size chart on their website.
They mention on their website that they recommend getting a larger shield if you are between two sizes. I have asked my colleagues to add this information to the product page.
