One of the most important pieces of equipment for kitesurfing is your harness. This connects you to the kite bar, and transfers the force from the kite to your body. Kite harnesses are made to be durable, strong and sturdy to withstand the power of the kite and wind.
When choosing a harness, it’s important that it fits comfortably and is secure. Wearing a harness that is uncomfortable will likely make the whole kite experience far less enjoyable and fun. Each harness is sized differently, so check the product’s size guide to make sure you get the right fit. Kite harnesses, are available in unisex but also male and female models to give an optimal fit.
Seat Harnesses vs Waist Harnesses
One of the biggest decisions you need to make is choosing between a seat and waist harness. There’s no wrong decision, but it does make an impact on your kite surfing experience.
Seat Harness
Kiteboarding seat harnesses are the original style of harness. They are the bigger type of harness and come with straps that you wrap around your legs. The harness sits lower on your body, meaning that you have a lower pull point and lower center of gravity. This design makes it better suited for beginners as well as long-distance racers.
Waist Harness
Waist harnesses come without leg straps and sit higher on your torso. This gives you more freedom of movement and more maneuverability when doing stunts and tricks. They are also more comfortable to wear. With waist harnesses, it’s harder to keep a low center of gravity but at the same time easier to maintain an upright position.
