Adult Scooters – Practical, Fun, and Built for Teens & Grown-Ups
Here you’ll find adult scooters for every purpose. Our goal is to provide a selection of high-quality scooters from trusted brands, and offer the best options in every price-range.
Adult scooters – also called commuter scooters – are designed for grown-ups who want a practical, fast, and fun way to get around.
Adult scooters are strong enough for persons weighing up to 100 kg (or 220 lbs) with some models being built for even heavier persons. Whether you're commuting to work or joining your kids for a ride in the park, if you’re an adult looking for a scooter, you’ve come to the right place.
What Is an Adult Scooter?
Adult scooters are made to be safe and practical transportation devices for adults. They are larger than pro scooters, and while keeping the weight at a minimum, they are robust enough to carry the weight of an adult person.
Common features of adult scooters include:
- Adjustable handlebars, perfectly sized for teens and grown-ups
- Folding mechanism for easy carrying and storing
- Large wheels with a diameter of 200 mm or more
- Robust and light construction
What Are the Advantages of Foldable Scooters?
Foldable scooters are great for everyday use. It is a great advantage to be able to collapse the scooter so it takes up less space when not in use. Foldable scooters are easy to bring along on public transportation, to store in a tight space, including the trunk of your car.
Folding mechanisms on modern scooters are reliable and easy to work with, typically using a quick-release locking-pin. You can operate the folding mechanism without the use of any tools.
Foldable VS. Non-Foldable Scooters
Choosing between a foldable or a non-foldable scooter depends on your priorities:
- Foldable scooters are designed for portability and convenient to carry along.
- Non-foldable scooters are designed for stability, robustness, and longer rides.
In our range of adult scooters, we offer both foldable and non-foldable models. While all are safe and sturdy, foldable scooters do have a potential point of weakness at the folding mechanism – something non-foldable models don’t have.
A non-foldable scooter could be the better choice if you’re planning longer rides or expect to encounter rougher terrain. That said, the folding mechanism is a brilliant feature that lets you easily collapse and carry the scooter wherever you go, and it makes storage much more convenient.
What Size Scooter Should I get?
Measure the distance from the ground to the height where you’d find it most comfortable to hold the handlebars while riding. Your ideal handlebar height should fall between your hips and navel. Once you’ve found that spot, add 5 cm to account for the distance between the top of the deck and the ground.
Check the scooter’s total height specification for the model you’re considering. Total height indicates the distance from the ground to the top of the handlebar. For adult scooters with adjustable handlebars, the total height is given as a range – the lower number represents the lowest handlebar position, and the higher number represents the maximum height.
Do Adult Scooters Have Hand Brakes?
Not all adult scooters include a hand brake, while all of them are equipped with a rear fender brake. On a scooter, you can reduce speed in three ways: using the fender brake, using a hand brake (if available), or placing a foot on the ground and dragging it to create friction. Dragging a foot on the ground is intuitive but causes unnecessary wear to shoe soles. Getting a scooter with a solid fender brake or handbrake (or both) is preferable if you're commuting.
Hand brakes provide faster and more controlled stopping. Commuter scooters benefit from hand brakes because they improve safety in traffic and offer responsive and smooth speed regulation. While a hand brake is not strictly necessary, we highly recommend them for commuting.
